Rice cooker has been an important houseware for all Asian families around the world. It has become more than an electronic but a networking tool.
However, though more and more technology are used in modern day rice cooker, but the design hasn't been changed, which makes it seems out of place in modern household when compared with other kitchenware.
Dated Design
What do they do?
Today's rice cookers have a variety of functions, or buttons. Instead of creating a better user experience for the users, they are disrupting to the eye as well as the workflow in kitchen.
Research
What does it mean?
For most of Asian families, the rice cooker is just a cooking tool, but a networking staple. When guest come to the house, they'd look at the rice cooker to determine how wealthy is the family. The buttons might be an indication of more technology thus more expensive but the way it shown isn't very pleasant to the eyes.
Is this necessary?
The Zojirushi NS-TSC10 (as seen in the picture) is one of the best selling rice cooker on the planet earth, it costs $150 - $200.
While it can make great rice, it isn't very pleasant to look at especially when you paid over $150 for it. There are 10 buttons while only 2 are being used for majority of the users.
