FLEX Razor

Make the razor curve, not flatten your face.

Why are we using flat surface to solve a rounded issue?

While all human has rounded shape face and uneven skin surface, all shaving razor are made to a perfectly flat surface. 

How can we design a shaving solution that enable the users to shave all areas of face with comfort and ease of mind, minimize the time and effort taken to achieve the goal.

By conducting task analysis on how a user would shave, there are issues identified in multiple steps. As seen in the picture above, we can use the shaving foam to analysis the missed areas of shave. The pressure area of a traditional razor is only at the center of the blade, created a inefficient process. While shaving the chin area, the effective surface of the blade is very small, the user have to go back and forward multiple times to shave. When finished, we can still see a significant amount of beard left on the chin.

Prototyping

Using insights from the research, I developed three prototypes to address different areas. 
A combination of card stock and foams are used to imitate the chrematistics of the end goal. A 3D printed model was also created as the higher fidelity prototype.

User Testing

Giving to prototypes to different users and see how how each react to the product. Also fine tune the form by feedbacks from the users.
Overall, the feedback was very positive toward the size and shape of the form after some minor adjustment. The concept of the flexible structure was proven.
