A journey of creativity

As students, coming to SCAD means a lot, it's a commitment to discover your talents, it's a path to your success.

From freshmen to seniors, students go through countless projects where they forge their skills; meet likeminded friends from all over the world; work through sleepless nights to impress clients. SCAD is more than a school, it's an ocean of possibilities.

How does your most comfortable pair of shoes look like? This?

In today's world, not many shoes can last. Once you have finally broke them in, it's probably when they start to tear and fall apart.

How can we design a pair of shoes that can last a student's journey at SCAD, a pair of shoes that can be a part of that journey, and become even better when being worn.

As the birth place of SCAD, Savannah was once the home of many pirates. Whether it's Captain Clint from the Treasure Island or one of the most famous pirate of all time, Blackbeard, Savannah was a part of their expedition.

Unlike modern products, pirate ships never worried about being old. The bomb holes, rusting bolts, cracking wood panels, teared sails, these were seen as the marks of honors, they show the experience of the captain, the battles it went through, and make people dream about the treasure it has seen.

After considering how most shoes slowly going out of the life cycle after purchase, I want to design a pair of sneakers that will grow along side of the owners, become a part of their journey through SCAD.

Seeing how the pirate ships look even cooler after all the battle scars, rust, ripped sail, degrading wood, etc. It wouldn't be recognized as a great pirate ship without all these imperfection. So I'm using all these elements to create an unique design that's meant to imperfect, to be wore, to get dirty, to slowly record all the places the owner walked through.
